VMRay Inc. sells and supports worldwide both VMRay Analyzer and VMRay cloud, initially developed by the German company VMRay GmbH. VMRay GmbH, based out of Bochum, Germany, was founded by Carsten Willems and Ralf Hund in 2013 based on the work each had done as part of their Ph.Ds[1] they received that year in computer science / IT-security at the Ruhr-University of Bochum. The first production deployment of VMRay technology was in early 2015. This technology was in turn built on their earlier work on automating dynamic malware analysis.[2] VMRay has received seed funding from High-Tech Gruenderfonds.[3] In October 2016 VMRay closed a Series A investment of 3.5 million euros with eCapital as the lead investor.[4]

VMRay Analyzer is an agentless hypervisor-based software or cloud service that monitors and dynamically analyzes suspicious files and URLs and scores the severity of maliciousness based on the analyzed behavior.

In September 2017, VMRay Analyzer received a 5-Star Review and Recommended Tool of the Month from SC Media[5]
