This book is an illustrated history of ”International mathematical congresses” from 1893 to 1986. It is a revised and enlarged edition of the earlier one. The editors never divide the book into chapters but altogether there are twenty-five sections under the headings of different places where the international mathematical congresses were held. The authors describe the cream of the meetings. The four other sections are under the headings (i) Hilbert, (ii) Fields medalists, (iii) Plenary lectures, (iv) Acknowledgements. In the Fields medalist section, the authors describe the short history of the Fields medalists where the names of the recipriants are given and also their works are described briefly. A number of outstanding mathematicians were invited to deliver lectures before the plenary sessions of international mathematical congresses. These invited lectures have gone under different names at different congresses. They are listed in this book as plenary lectures. This is a very useful book for historians of mathematics and also general readers.
