Sara Loren (Urdu: ساره لورين; born as Mona Lizza, is a Pakistan-based actress and model best known for her appearances in Pakistani as well as Bollywood films and television series.[2]

Background

Sara Loren, originally named “Mona Lizza”, was born in Kuwait City, Kuwait on the 11th of December, 1991. Her father was from Rajasthan India and her mother was from Lahore, Pakistan.[3] She belongs to the Rajput caste.[4] She has 3 younger sisters and an older brother. Sara’s family moved to Lahore after her father died while she was only 15 years old.[5]

A very well known photographer in Pakistan, Abdul Qayum, took a picture of Sara after which she was selected to be in an advertisement for Fair & Lovely and thus launched her modeling career. Soon after, she was chosen to be in a television series, ‘Rabia Zinda Rahegi’.

Mona Lizza relaunched her career with the name Sara Loren which was selected by Sanjay B Jumani in Mumbai. They selected the name based on her numerology. This was a name which could really stand out to showcase her as a star.

Early Life

Born headlining in a leading arab newspaper, Sara’s birth was covered by Arab Times which read, ‘A 12 pound normal healthy baby born on a sofa’. Sara’s mother was having labour pains and her father was driving. He was in such a hurry to get to the hospital, he broke the signal to reach there. He put her mother on the sofa but by the time the doctors arrived Sara had already been born. Her mom still tells the story with great fondness.

After partition Sara`s father moved to Kuwait. Her father was the brightest child in her family. He was a businessman who owned a restaurant in Kuwait. Sara`s father was a member of a group that specialized in organizing concerts in Kuwait. Well known faces were a part of these concerts such as, Mehdi Hassan, Madam Noor Jehan, Rekha, Sridevi and lots of stars from around that time. He was a big fan of Bollywood movies and especially a huge fan of Amitabh Bachchan. He was very keen to do a show with Amitabh Bachchan. As a child, Sara used to watch Amithab’s movies with her father. She was very inspired by movies and used to dream of becoming an actress.

Education

Sara Loren attended Salmiya Model School in Kuwait City, Kuwait where the teachers were mostly Indian and Pakistani. Sara had completed her education till 10th grade in Kuwait. After her father passed away, her family moved to Lahore,Pakistan where she attended Lahore College of Commerce, graduating as a Bachelor of Commerce. Loren was always a brilliant student in Mathematics and Business. She received several compliments from her teachers and fellow students for her performances in theatre activities at school.

Personal Life

Sara’s mother plays a critical role in her life. She is a homemaker, a caregiver and Saras best friend. Sara says it makes her very happy when her mother says that she is a mirror image of her father. Her behavior and her body language are exactly the same as her father.

Her brother is married and has two children. He owns a computer business in Pakistan. Her first younger sister is married and settled in Malaysia. Saras other younger sister has an MBA in marketing and her youngest sister has a degree in couture designing and runs her own clothing line by the name of "Dhaani".

Sara had changed her name from Mona Lizza to Sara Loren. Sara in Hebrew means Princess and Loren means a Laurel tree which is symbolic of honour and victory in Latin. She said she sensed the need of a name that is powerful. Sara knew from a very young age that she wanted to build her life around acting. That dream has come true. “I feel like I have finally found a place to be”.

Career

Loren made her film debut in the 2010 Pooja Bhatt's romantic thriller film Kajraare opposite Himesh Reshammiya and later played seductress Nisha in the 2013 film Murder 3. The following year she starred in Yasir Nawaz's Anjuman for which she won the Tarang Housefull Awards—Best Actress in a Leading Role.[6] Loren made her acting debut in 2003 with the serial Rabia Zinda Rahegi. She has also appeared in Mahnoor, Meharun Nisa, Makan, Mehar Bano aur Shah Bano, Sandal, Riyasat, Help of a Ghost, Dupatta, Umrao jan-e-adaa and was nominated for Best Drama Actress for her performance in Main Mar Gai Shaukat Ali at 2nd Pakistan Media Awards.[7]

Loren acted in the stage performances of Anarkali, Shahyad Issi Ka Naam Mohabbat Hai Sheiftaa, in Karachi and Delhi. Loren made her screen debut with the 2010 Pooja Bhatt's Bollywood film Kajraare. The following year, she had a cameo appearance in song "Love Mein Ghum" in Reema Khan's Love Mein Ghum. She then played the role of seductress Nisha in the 2013 film Murder 3.[8] The following year, she made her Lollywood debut in Yasir Nawaz's Anjuman. In 2014, she did an item number "Saiyaan" in Syed Faisal Bukhari's Saltanat. She then appeared in Shadaab Mirza's Barkhaa, where she played a small town girl turned bar dancer.[9][10][11]

Throughout her career, her performance has been appreciated by the critics and apart from few, most of her films have marked a great commercial success.

Philanthropy & Social Causes

Sara has worked with Smile Foundation, which is an NGO, based in New Delhi, India. It is an organization which works for the welfare of children, their families and communities alike. It primarily provides education to underprivileged children.

Sara Loren is a believer in gender equality around the world. Voicing that women should stand up for themselves if they feel they are being mistreated. She has previously stated that a woman who is strong can fix society, has the power to change things and can be a guide to build a better world.

Other Ventures

Sara Loren has two house brands which both her sisters are working on with an exceptional setup. She is currently aiming to be a screenplay writer and producer as well to showcase her creativity in the best way possible.
