The team was created in 2017 as a way to help develop players under contract with the parent San Diego Sockers. They played their first season in the same arena as their parent club, the Pechanga Arena San Diego in San Diego. They went 7-5 in the regular season and 2-1 in the playoffs winning the first ever Western Conference title in M2 history. They advanced to the inaugural M2 Cup Champion, but fell to the eventual champion Chicago Mustangs (who moved down to M2) 7-0. [1]
