Rajya Sabha TV

Rajya Sabha TV (RSTV) is a cable television network channel owned and operated by Rajya Sabha that covers the proceedings of Rajya Sabha (the Upper House of the Parliament of India).[1] Apart from telecasting live coverage of Rajya Sabha proceedings, RSTV also brings incisive analysis of parliamentary affairs.[2] While focusing on current national and international affairs, it provides a platform for knowledge-based programmes for the discerning viewer. The channel offers special attention to legislative business undertaken by the Parliament.[3]

Conscious of its role as a public broadcaster, RSTV has conceptualised programmes on the basis of the vibrant relationship between the Parliament and the people of India.[4] It aims at providing an objective perspective on national and international affairs to the people.[5] RSTV touches upon all the aspects of political, economic, social and cultural life of the people, while promoting scientific temper among masses.[6]

Currently, the CEO of Rajya Sabha TV is Manoj Pandey.[2]

With a vision to document the story of how the Constitution of India was created, Rajya Sabha TV produced the 10-part TV mini-series Samvidhaan, which was directed by the noted film director Shyam Benegal.[7][8][9][10]

Programmes

The following is a list of programmes which are telecast on Rajya Sabha TV:

  • vishesh:daily (mon-fri-7:30 pm) program in Hindi Which provides details related to particular current topic, its history and similar events. It mostly covers topics from environment, history, personalities and government agenda.

Main Bhi Bharat : It's the only programme in the history of Indian TV channels which talks about the tribes of India.

  • Desh Deshantar: daily (Mon-Fri) program in Hindi which features discussion on one topic of current national or international importance
  • Virasat: A biopic series on the life and work of eminent personalities in the field of art, literature, culture and film
  • Guftagoo: weekly; conversation with eminent personalities in the fields of culture and music
  • Indian Standard Time: weekly; an interview show with visiting foreign dignitaries and intellectuals
  • India's World: weekly; discussion on world affairs with diplomats and analysts
  • Media Manthan: weekly; panel discussion on the state of the media
  • Policy Watch: weekly; a show featuring discussion of national economic policies
  • Samvidhaan: show about making of Constitution of India in film format

  • Arthniti (Earlier: State of the Economy): weekly; an interview show with key decision makers and analysts regarding the current situation of Economy.
  • Big Picture: daily (Mon-Fri) : depth analysis of national and international issue with eminent panel.
  • sara jahan:weekend program(sat-sun:9.pm):covers all the international highlights which makes news through out the week.
  • Security scan :- a programme of discussion on defence equipments by a panel.
