History

It was first announced in October, 2017 that a New York consortium is to follow in the footsteps of the first transatlantic rugby league team, Canadian side, Toronto Wolfpack with a view to entering the Rugby Football League's League 1 in 2019.[2]

On the 20 May 2019 the Rugby Football League released a statement on both the overseas clubs, Ottawa Stags & New York RLFC stating that Ottawa had been accepted, in principle, to join League 1 in 2020 while New York had a change in ownership structure and without existing operations was encouraged to work toward entry to the 2021 League 1 season, along with Ottawa who was deemed not ready for 2020.[3] [4]
