Early life

Kelvin was born Kelvin Lewis Taylor in Hampton, Virginia with his fraternal twin sister, Princess. His mother, Rhonda (Taylor) Clark, is a playwright. His biological father Kelvin Lewis Pittman was a narcotics dealer turned user. Due to his father's substance abuse, he was raised in a single-parent home in the section 8 housing projects of Stuart Gardens, the same neighborhood of NBA Hall of Fame athlete Allen Iverson. His family was one of millions of African American families displaced and test subjects of US city zoning laws which origins stems from racial segregated of ethnic groups according to wealth. Taylor's family was subjected to the supposed War on drugs and also the War on Poverty. At age 11, his family relocated and eventually settled in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Kelvin made his stage debut at age 5 in kindergarten as the lead role in The Gingerbread Man. His decision to become involved was inspired by his need to escape the harsh realities of his neighborhood, childhood trauma and the inspiration of his twin sister being cast as Cinderella for Cinderella at the same children's showcase.[10]

Taylor has said that he has learned from the situation saying " taught me to reassess and define what a friendship is...".[11] As of 2008, Kelvin Taylor currently resides between Australia, New Zealand and the United States.[12]
