Global Women's Basketball Association

The Global Women's Basketball Association is a women's professional basketball league operating in the Midwest region of the United States. The GWBA features four teams, the St. Louis Surge, the Wisconsin GLO, the Music City Icons, and the Flint Monarchs.

The GWBA was founded in 2016 by owner Sonya Nichols in Chicago, Illinois. As of 2019, it featured four teams, but plans for expansion prior to the 2020 season.[1] The Surge plays home games at the Washington University in St. Louis Field House. The GLO plays home games at the Menominee Nation Arena, home of the NBA G League's Wisconsin Herd.[2] The Icons hosts home games at Ensworth High School, and the Monarchs do so at Dort Federal Credit Event Center. The league's player pool consists of former often local college stars, former WNBA players and accomplished international players.[2]
