It is located in the Päijänne Tavastia region. The municipality has a population of 16,103 (31 January 2019)[2] and covers an area of 814.01 square kilometres (314.29 sq mi) of which 28.87 km2 (11.15 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 20.5 inhabitants per square kilometre (53/sq mi).
